Major Projects

For every project, we assess the short-term and long-term advantages of life-cycle costing in relation to the chosen components and system design. This approach ensures that each option is thoroughly evaluated for performance, efficiency, reliability, safety, ease of maintenance, and overall cost-efficiency—aligned with the project brief and budget.

Our established partnerships with electrical contractors and engineering suppliers support precise cost planning, especially in scenarios requiring fixed-price tenders, Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) agreements, or Design and Construct (D&C) delivery models.

From a technical and engineering standpoint, our engineers are among the most progressive and innovative in their field. Their skills and in-house expertise enable us to deliver high-quality outcomes based on practical, specialised knowledge. By combining common-sense approaches with sound and effective engineering design, we ensure minimal overall capital and maintenance costs for each project.

Below are some of the major projects we’ve delivered across various industries. While these examples reflect our capabilities and experience, they represent only a portion of our broader portfolio.

Appin VS7 & VS8 – Ventilation Shaft Sinking Project (NSW)

IPS Design was engaged by the shaft sinking contractor’s owner team to deliver the Electrical, Controls and Instrumentation (ECI) scope for the Appin VS7 and VS8 ventilation shaft sinking project in New South Wales.

Our scope encompassed the complete electrical, controls, and instrumentation design for all critical infrastructure supporting shaft sinking operations. This included site power reticulation systems, detailed engineering of winding equipment, and design of auxiliary infrastructure such as man-riding conveyances, control rooms, headframes, and stage conveyances.

Given the classification of the shafts as hazardous areas, IPS managed the coordination and delivery of hazardous area specialist design packages to ensure full compliance with relevant standards and regulatory requirements.

In addition to design responsibilities, IPS provided comprehensive project delivery support. Our team directed supplier engagement and supervised key electrical build activities, including workshop testing and system validation. IPS remained actively involved across the entire project lifecycle—from early-phase engineering through to onsite construction assistance, system integration, commissioning, and final readiness for operational handover.

Tanami Expansion Project – Shaft Lining and Equipping (NT)

IPS Design was engaged by the shaft sinking contractor’s owner team to deliver the Electrical, Controls and Instrumentation (ECI) scope for the Tanami Expansion 2 Project – Shaft Lining and Equipping, located in the remote Tanami Desert, Northern Territory.

Our scope included the complete ECI design for all infrastructure supporting shaft lining operations. This comprised site-wide power distribution systems, PLC control and Remote I/O architecture, detailed engineering of each winding system, and design of associated support infrastructure such as man-riding conveyances, control rooms, headframes, and stage conveyances.

The IPS project management team oversaw procurement and coordination of all supply contractors, managing the build and integration of all electrical infrastructure—including Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) of key systems.

Our engineering and design team remained engaged throughout the full project lifecycle, providing on-site support during construction, assisting with system completions, and ensuring a seamless transition from early engineering involvement through to commissioning and operational readiness.

Oyu Tolgoi Rio Tinto – Shaft 3 and 4 Sinking Project (Mongolia)

IPS Design played a key role in the established electrical design team for this major project. Initially engaged to produce drawing packages and engineering deliverables for all above-ground power distribution, our involvement quickly expanded. We became embedded in the broader project, assisting the client with implementation and construction support.

Snowy 2.0 Hydro (NSW, Australia)

IPS Design was engaged to complete the electrical drawing package for the Winder Pilot Plant, used in the initial tunnel refurbishment works.

Syama Underground Power and Automation Project – Syama Gold Mine (West Africa)

Working alongside the client’s owner team and the Sandvik Group, IPS Design completed all design and engineering deliverables required for the implementation of the Syama underground power and automation project.

Scope included:

  • Underground power distribution
  • Communications and automation infrastructure design
  • Site-based consulting and construction assistance
  • Primary and secondary ventilation systems
  • Primary and secondary pumping systems

Syama HV Upgrade Projects – Syama Gold Mine (West Africa)

IPS Design collaborated with the client’s owner team to deliver design and engineering solutions for the 11kV and communications upgrades across the Syama site, while also assisting in site management for the company’s 225kV power line project. Scope included:

  • Design and construction of new 11kV switchroom substations
  • 33kV powerline construction for pump stations
  • Above-ground power distribution
  • Communications upgrades
  • Site-based consulting and construction assistance
  • Design and construction of a new construction camp
  • Manage 225kV Powerline contruction sub-contractors

Tabakoroni Gold Mine Initiation Project (West Africa)

IPS Design completed the design and drawing package required for the site mining services facilities and camp infrastructure.

Scope included:

  • Electrical and civil general arrangements
  • Water treatment plant design
  • Security and traffic management drawings

Syama P85 and Oxide Gravity Projects – Syama Gold Mine (West Africa)

IPS Design delivered the design and drawing packages required for process upgrades to the Syama Sulphide and Oxide gravity circuits.

Fixed Storage and Open Bulkhead Storage/Grain Handling Facilities – CBH Group (WA, Australia)

IPS Design provides complete electrical design drawing packages for the manufacture, construction, and refurbishment of both fixed and open bulkhead storage/grain handling facilities across the wheat belt of Western Australia.

Ridee Ganga Graphite Project – Sri Lanka

IPS Design has provided ongoing support for this small mining project for over four years, including establishing camp facilities, general mining operations, site power distribution, and shaft winding systems. We anticipate this partnership will extend into major mining development and mineral processing.
